Julie Plankeel Duba received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in oil painting from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT.  She and a small group of aspiring fine artists were the first class to receive Bachelor degrees from the prestigious academy in 1996.

Julie has been in the business of making art ever since.  In 2007, she began teaching art lessons to adults and children from her Stonington studio.  As an instructor, Julie focuses on the power of observation - the ability to draw what one sees is fundamental. She believes it allows her students to gain the confidence they seek and the fearlessness they crave in their creative process. Through the strength of instruction received under Deane Keller, Dan Gheno, Jerry Weiss, Elizabeth Gordon Chandler and others, Julie found her own posture of being a teacher and a working artist came naturally. She is committed to never stop being a student of her craft.

Julie’s paintings and drawings grace the walls of private homes and businesses across the country. She is most known for her many works done by commission. Julie’s medium of choice is oil and her passion is for portraiture - both people and animals - as well as landscapes, seascapes, and townscapes. As an exhibiting artist in Connecticut, Julie has shown at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Olde Lyme, the Slater Museum in Norwich, Four Paws Veterinary Services in Mystic, and in Stonington, at the La Grua Gallery, Setra Artes Gallery and in local coffee shops.

Julie lives in Stonington, CT with her husband Greg and dog Gideon.  They have two adult daughters, Haley and Siobhan, who bring joy, adventure and great conversations to their lives.
